Immigrant Narratives of the Journey
This project features the stories of five Caribbean immigrants who share their journey of coming to and establishing their lives in the United States (U.S.). The participants come from three Caribbean countries—Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago—and include four women and one man, aged between 41 and 69. Having lived in the U.S. for anywhere from 7 to 38 years, each participant reflects a unique perspective on the immigrant experience.

The narratives they share are important because these stories represent the fabric of their lives and provide insight into the experience of migrating from one country to another. Through narratives, people can express how they understand themselves and how they want to be understood. Since identity is constantly evolving, narratives become a tool for individuals to express and reframe their experiences, helping them navigate who they are in relation to their past, present, and future.
